Fund Raising for the La Fortuna Orphanage, Costa Rica

In January 2014, we helped in a Costa Rica orphanage, in La Fortuna. Working with the 17 kids at the orphanage was an amazing experience for us 5.

When we asked the orphanage director how we could help when back in Canada, she told us about building another room for 4-5 kids. These 4-5 kids are actually in a little room, that would be used to extend the actual living room. When it rains,the kids don't have much space to play inside. The cost for the material for this new room is around 9 million colones (9000$) and the labor should cost around 9000$ too. We discussed this with Tropical Adventures, a volunteer service organization based in Costa Rica, and they will try to find groups of local and international volunteers to help build the new room.

A second phase for this project is the building of a second floor to this new room, where the kids could play music. The cost for this second floor is estimated at the same price as the first floor, 9000$ for the material and 9000$ for the labor. The priority is the new room for the beds though, on the first floor.
